The Kolkata Society for Cultural Heritage (KSCH) operates as a grassroots social enterprise dedicated to fostering lasting developmental changes in ru Read moreral, urban, and tribal regions of India. Emphasizing the pivotal role of livelihood in sustainable development, KSCH prioritizes enhancing economic conditions in these areas, recognizing its ripple effect on other social dimensions such as education, health, and sanitation. Accordingly, KSCH concentrates on bolstering existing livelihoods like agriculture, horticulture, fish harvesting, and poultry farming prevalent in these regions, providing technical support. Additionally, KSCH endeavours to promote traditional folk music, dance, and artefacts as avenues for generating livelihoods among rural communities. Through advocating for community-led developmental initiatives, KSCH aims to instill growth and awareness within these communities.

Programs

  • Community Forest Programme

The organisation has launched "The Community Forest Programme," aiming to restore the Sundarban mangrove forests through sustainable plantation initiatives led by the local community. With over 218,686 mangrove saplings planted and 200,000 seeds already in the community nursery, alongside the collection of approximately 600,000 mangrove seeds, the project is actively monitored by 42 supervisors and trainers. Involving 3,560 families, the programme aims to implant 400,000 mangroves within a year.

  • Chitropot Programme

The organisation has initiated "ChitroPot," recognizing the lack of platforms for rural folk artists to showcase their skills. This project provides a platform for rural artisans to exhibit their talents alongside renowned artists from the US, Europe, and Bangladesh, as well as young contemporary artists. Through this initiative, rural youth have the chance to explore new art forms and styles from international sources. Notably, underprivileged artists share the stage with famous contemporary artists from Europe, with the organisation offering logistical support for their participation. In the previous year, artists from Serbia, the USA, Albania, Greece, Romania, and Bangladesh participated in the festival, fostering cultural exchange and artistic collaboration.
