Uttarpara Sangeet Chakra, the NGO, has undertaken a significant initiative to promote classical Hindustani music through its "Sangeet Bhawan" music school. Established in 1962 and inaugurated by the late Prof. Dr Humayun Kabir, the then Minister of Education, Government of India, the school appointed the renowned classical music expert, Sri Chinmay Lahiri, as its first Principal. Today, this institution stands as a distinguished hub for learning classical Hindustani music in West Bengal. It holds affiliations with Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapeeth, Lucknow, and Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, offering diverse streams including Vocal, Instrumental, and Dance, with an enrollment of approximately 300 students.

Uttarpara Sangeet Chakra, the NGO, is closely linked to the historic Uttarpara Jaykrishna Public Library, India's first free public library, established in 1859. This library, founded by Joykrishan Mukherjee, holds invaluable collections and is associated with renowned figures like Michael Madhusudan Dutta and Rishi Aurobindo. With a substantial collection of 50 to 60 thousand books, it's considered a "Treasure House." Notable individuals such as Governor Sir Ashley Eden, Miss Mary Carpenter, and Sir Edwin Arnold have been connected to it. The library also played a role in compiling Rev. James Long's famous catalogue in 1855.
