Since its founding in 2006, Jhamtse Gatsal (the Garden of Love and Compassion), once described as a “brave social experiment,” has evolved into a mode Read morel Community and Learning Center that is transforming education in India and beyond. Their mission is to cultivate love and compassion in everything they do, from educating children and promoting sustainable living to preserving cultural heritage and fostering community-based living.

Jhamtse Gatsal provides free education, healthcare, nutrition, and a safe family environment to vulnerable children from nearby villages who have experienced trauma and adversity.

The vision is for the world to live as one loving and compassionate community. The mission is to nurture seeds of compassion to bloom within themselves and people around the world.

Programs

  • Gap year program

    The Covid-19 lockdown offered us a unique opportunity to launch a Gap Year Program for our graduating children, helping them reconnect with their Jhamtse roots before embarking on their journeys into the world. This program encourages children to learn, reflect, and engage with their Jhamtse family and the local community, enabling them to discover or refine their potential before making important career decisions.

  • Healthcare

    Our on-campus clinic addresses the immediate healthcare needs of our community, serving children, adults, and even animals. Additionally, it extends healthcare support to neighboring villages through visiting doctors, dentists, and veterinarians.

Milestones & Track Record

Established in 2006, Jhamtse Gatsal has grown to serve over 125 children and was featured in the Emmy award-winning documentary 'Tashi and the Monk'.
