  • Child development

Sangath embarked on its path as a multidisciplinary child guidance clinic, comprising a team of various specialists such as a pediatrician, speech therapist, physiotherapist, psychiatrist, psychologist, and special educators. As time progressed, Sangath's scope in child development extended beyond its initial setting and ventured into communities, reaching closer to individuals' residences. At present, Sangath's endeavors in child development encompass clinical provisions for children encountering developmental and mental health challenges. The organization collaborates with parents to facilitate treatments for children with autism and initiates inclusive education initiatives.

  • Adolescent mental health

Adolescence, a crucial transitional phase marked by physical and psychological changes, signifies the shift from childhood to adulthood. Puberty, brain development, and evolving societal roles characterize this period. Navigating adolescence impacts a young person's overall life quality. The complexities and vulnerabilities at this stage increase the likelihood of health problems, especially mental health issues, encompassing self-esteem, identity, family, bullying, nutrition, sexual health, poverty, violence, and discrimination. Many adolescents lack essential healthcare, nutrition, safe environments, and support, highlighting the need for increased awareness, understanding, and accessible services for their well-being. Mann Mela, an initiative by Sangath, serves as a digital repository of narratives concerning the mental health of youth in India. • Ageing and chronic disease

Through this research, Sangath aims to assess the viability and practicality of a counseling program aimed at preventing depression among the elderly population. The intervention was administered by individuals from the community who are not specialists in mental health. The study had several objectives. The first goal was to adapt a counseling intervention by incorporating elements from Problem-Solving Therapy (PST) and Brief Behavioural Treatment for Insomnia (BBTI) to suit the local context. The second goal was to examine the acceptability and feasibility of implementing this intervention using non-specialist community members as lay counsellors.
The key components of the intervention included Problem-Solving Therapy, adaptation of Brief Behavioural Treatment for insomnia, behavioural activation, providing navigational support by offering information about relevant social and financial resources along with guidance on accessing them, and addressing the management of chronic illness.
