Pragati is focused on education and is dedicated to providing high-quality primary education to underprivileged children. Its mission involves transfo Read morerming Government primary schools and establishing centres of excellence to achieve this goal. Pragati's interventions revolve around three key areas. Firstly, it enhances the learning environment by upgrading school infrastructure to create safe and clean spaces, including SMART digital-aided classrooms, science labs, and playgrounds, ensuring an education comparable to private schools. Secondly, it prioritizes the WASH programme, ensuring access to water, sanitation, and hygiene, as defined by USAID, while improving basic facilities. Lastly, it enriches the curriculum by incorporating computer education, STEM programmes, and extracurricular activities such as music and dance, facilitated by qualified teachers, volunteers, and experts. Since its establishment in 2002 with just eight volunteers and eleven students. The organisation firmly believes that these interventions lead to students rejoining Government schools, drastically reducing dropout rates.

English Conversation Classes Programme
To support students in achieving their aspirations of fluency in the English language, Pragati offers English Conversation classes. The curriculum aims to enhance their reading skills, cultivate reading habits, and grasp the intricacies of spoken English. These classes are designed to improve language comprehension, everyday conversational abilities, and foster confident speaking. Story-telling, jumbles, role play, puppetry, and theatre activities form the foundation of these classes, providing a diverse learning experience.
-
School Programme
Pragati operates in Gurgaon through three school buildings named Arcade, Max, and Vatika. It offers formal primary education from Nursery to Class 5, with class sizes ranging from 15 to 30 students. The organisation has 15 permanent teachers and over 40 volunteers, resulting in a student-teacher ratio of 20:1. Each school consists of three classrooms within the building and four classrooms in partially covered sheds. The classrooms are equipped with tables, chairs, blackboards, and soft boards. Additionally, there is an open ground for children to play, a store for distributing essential items, and computer labs capable of accommodating 25 students at a time.
-
Art and Craft Programme
Pragati students are annually introduced to different art and craft techniques, fostering skill development and opening doors to future livelihood opportunities. At Diwali Melas, crafts made by students are exhibited and sold, creating a win-win situation where children learn crafts while raising awareness about the school. The revenue generated from these sales serves as an added advantage. Over the years, a wide array of crafts like murals, greeting cards, diyas, trays, coasters, textiles, lamps, and vases have been crafted for these Diwali Melas.
-
Computer literacy Programme
At Pragati, it is believed that every student should have computer access and proficiency. Initially, the computer literacy programme began with five computers in each building, focusing on Class 5 students in the after-school programme. Currently, the computer program at Pragati is administered by the NGO Computer Shiksha, ensuring continued computer education for all students.
-
Vocational Training Programme
Annually, students receive exposure to a range of arts and crafts taught by different volunteers. The Diwali Mela serves as a valuable opportunity for them to learn craft skills that yield marketable products. The students' eagerness and engagement in these sessions have inspired the integration of consistent vocational training. In 2014, specialized classes were introduced, enabling students to acquire skills like crafting paper bags, making key holders, engaging in papier mache, and mastering bookbinding techniques.
