At Centre for Intrinsic Motivation( CIM), we see teachers as integral towards achieving the goal of SDG4. We aim to instill education systems with the Read more hope and belief that there is no challenge that an intrinsically motivated teacher cannot solve. We collaborate and partner with government systems and other organizations to cultivate their intrinsic motivation, which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable education towards transforming the education system. Over time, we have expanded our activities into three states (Delhi, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu) to reach more than 1.8 lakh teachers and 47 lakh children.
Issue
Lack of motivation in teachers and officials is a constant challenge to sustained teacher professional development programmes in India. Teacher training and programmes have not had a sustained impact on student learning because those responsible for implementing them (teachers and officials) were not intrinsically motivated to do so.
Action
Support governments to build a highly motivated teaching workforce and strengthen their capacities to promote quality of learning in schools. Establish communities of practice (CoP), mentoring processes and skill development for officials to support teachers. Co-design programme with system partners to foster local ownership. Design based on evidence-based change mechanisms and processes. Use peer collaboration, feedback, support and reflective practice to promote behaviour change
