Counsel to Secure Justice (CSJ) works to provide free legal assistance to survivors of child sexual abuse. It works with clients who are under the age Read more of 18, have faced sexual violence or abuse, and can not afford or access a legal advocate to assist with the criminal proceedings. It offers free support from the time the case is reported to the police until the verdict is declared; each client is provided with a social worker and an advocate to represent its clients during the criminal proceedings and to provide emotional and legal support during the process. The legal organization works at the ground level, at police stations, hospitals, and courts, advising government authorities on the law, supporting its clients, and monitoring the progress of its cases. It works to help the court reach a just verdict, supporting the client when they give their police statement, during their medical exam, and at the time they testify at trial. CSJ works to move the cases through the legal system quickly, working with and assisting the police and courts to follow legally prescribed timelines when they investigate and adjudicate cases. In addition, CSJ works to sensitize the victim and emotionally support the client at each stage of the legal process. It also represents its clients at Child Welfare Committee hearings, for immediate support and protection, and advocates for victim compensation so that its clients and their families have access to funds to support any needs that resulted from the sexual assault. Finally, the organization works to restore its clients back to their lives by providing direct counseling and connecting them to trustworthy organizations and professionals that provide the long-term care and support required to begin the emotional healing process.

Programs

  • Padhne Do, Badhne Do

    It is a special Access to Education Fund under CSJ's Survivor Support Program that will be used to help kids keep going to school while they get over the trauma of abuse and work their way through the legal system. With their best efforts to heal from abuse, children should not have to worry about any disruption to their education, which is the Fund's main objective.

  • Legal Support

    A legal counsel serves as the main source of legal help, with assistance from CSJ's pro bono panel and an internal attorney.

    Ensuring the child's rights are upheld and that they receive justice in court;
    Providing kid-friendly legal preparation; and
    Ensuring that the youngster gets just recompense.

    Good legal representation for child survivors guarantees that POCSO cases follow a child-friendly legal process, allowing the kid and family to pursue free legal recourse and resolution without placing the child in danger during testimony or in court.

  • Psychosocial Support

    The POCSO Act of 2012 provides for the provision of psychosocial support by qualified social workers who serve as survivors' support persons.

    - Offering family and child counselling
    - Assisting the child with testimony and all court proceedings
    - Determining and attending to the safety and rehabilitation needs of the kid by making the proper recommendations to other services, like school enrollment, medical care, and so forth.

    For the child, the Support Person is crucial throughout the process. They make sure the child gets all the assistance they need to live their lives to the fullest, and that their needs are recognized and satisfied.
