Gopabandhu Seva Parisad (GSP), established in 1999-2000 by a collective of socially-driven individuals, has grown from shared ideology and collaborati Read moreve efforts. Prior to its formal beginning, the founding members of GSP were actively engaged with different professional groups across Odisha, united by a common goal of addressing local needs effectively. GSP's early focus lay in disaster response along the coastal districts of Odisha, complemented by a commitment to empowering local communities and promoting women's advancement at grassroots levels. By 2005, GSP's volunteer network had expanded, encompassing various thematic areas with an emphasis on empowerment, rights-based practices, sustainable ecosystem development, biodiversity conservation, capacity building, and good governance. Both in terms of programmes and geographical reach, GSP has seen substantial growth. As of 2010, GSP's operational framework became more structured, catering to diverse client groups while forging connections at local, state, and national levels to address grassroots issues effectively. GSP envisions a self-reliant society devoid of violence, injustice, abuse, stigma, and discrimination. With a mission centred on empowering marginalized communities, particularly women, children, and vulnerable segments, GSP strives for social security, sustainable growth, human rights protection, advocacy, campaigns, direct interventions, and outreach activism. Through its journey, GSP exemplifies the power of collaboration, local empowerment, and dedicated pursuit of a just and equitable society.

Programs

  • Education Programme

    With the Support of Jiv Daya Foundation, USA we are providing Pre-School education with nutrition support in five Anganwadi centres of Boipariguda Block under Koraput district. At present 213 children are getting education support through art, dance, song and story telling. Besides this we are providing them Dress, Shoes and Ration kits twice in a year. Except Sunday under MILK project we are providing them 150 Ml. milk with three pics. of Parle-G biscuits.

  • Livelihoods Programme

    The organization raises awareness about MNREGA and tackles hunger-related problems, provides training to farmers, enhances women's skills in coir-making, and promotes disaster-resistant agricultural practices in Kanas tehsil. We have formed 3 nos. of Farmer Producer companies and they are involved in different types of livelihood activities i.e Pisciculture, Dockery, Phynile making, Coir rope and Mat making, Vermi composting etc.

  • Environment & Eco-System Management Programme

    In the realm of environment and ecosystem management, GSP engages in SHILP projects and environmental protection activities, conducts the National Environment Awareness Campaign, and contributes to water and sanitation efforts through the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin.

  • Governance Programme

    In the domain of governance, the organisation aids in gathering information through the RTI Act and resolving related issues. It conducts training for PRI members, maps beneficiaries across various Government schemes, and enhances the capacity of women within PRI. It ensures women's involvement in Palli Sabha and Gram Sabha, along with the preparation of Micro Level Plans and Gram Panchayat Development Plan. GSP is also creating awareness among the community on different Schemes and entitlements. Through village information centre we are facilitating application process on different schemes of Govt..

  • RAHAT Support

    In the hill top tribal dominated villages still today people are facing difficulties to get their rights and benefits of different schemes. With the supporting hand of Jiv Daya Foundation, USA we are Providing 50 Kg rice with ration kit to 160 families thrice in a year.

  • Economic Resilience

    Penthkotta is one of the largest urban slum of Puri as well as Asia. More than 10000 immigrant fisherfolk communities are residing there from 70-80 years back. All of them are telugu community and belongs to different places of Andhra pradesh and Telengana state. COVID-19 pandemic mostly affected them. Due the fishing ban and no market accessibility they unable to earn and feed their family members twice a day. Looking to this GSP with the support of Community Action Collab and VRUTTI implementing a project namely "Economic Resilience". The project basically designed in CDAR frame work. C Means- Conservation, D- Diversification, A-Aggregation and R- Risk Pulling. In this project we are creating opportunities on alternative livelihoods, Disaster Risk management, Marine litter management, Formation of Livelihood safety committee and Fishermen safety committee and Kishori Clubs. We are creating revolving fund within the committee to face the disaster.

  • Disaster management Programme

    We are creating awareness among the community on Disaster Risk Reduction. As a implementing partner of Odisha State Disaster Management Authority we are conducting Preparation of Village Disaster Management Plan in 84 villages of Puri & Malkangiri district. In this project with the active support and engagement of all stakeholders we are forming Village Disaster management committee in revenue villages and also forming 9 Disaster management team in each village. Handholding support with capacity building training is also one of the major component of the Project.
    In the recent past we have also conducted relief and rehabilitation programme for the Flood, cyclone and COVID-19 pandemic affected vulnerable population of Puri and Koraput district with the support of different international agencies like Cordaid-NL, Jiv Daya Foundation, CASA & Donatekart.

  • Healthcare Programmes

    With the support of District Head quarter Hospital, Puri, VRRUTI, Bangalore and Cure Bay we are organizing health check camps in each month for the immigrant fisherfolk communities of Penthakotta an urban slum of Puri. Besides this with the support of Vitamin Angels, USA we are distributing Vitamin-A supplements and Albendazole tablets to the children of age group 6 months to 5 years. In the form of wall painting and Movie screening we are also creating awareness on Anemia prevention. Through formation of "KISHORI Club" we are creating awareness among the adolescent girls on Menstrual Hygiene Management. With the Support of SWASTI, Bangalore under C4S project we are providing telemedicine service to the fisherfolk community of Penthakota, Puri, Odisha.
