It mobilises volunteers and encourages volunteerism by connecting individu Read moreals, irrespective of age or profession, who are devoted to teaching, with children in remote Government schools leveraging the power of technology to enable quality learning to reach rural children. It has set up digital classrooms with a CPU, 32-inch LCD screen, camera, conference mic, and broadband connections by BSNL and skype. All necessary equipment is set up by the NGO/community leaders at the respective rural locations. The teachers are remotely located with coordination between the teachers and the availability of the students being taken care of by eVidyaloka. There are about 90 such centres engaging volunteers to provide education to children from rural and remote areas of India in partnership with the Government, also involving local communities by utilizing digital technology through multi-modal programmes. It engages donor corporates also as partners for these programmes focusing on children from 5th to 10th grade to help them with education in their regional languages.
Issue
The students in rural government schools face two challenges. One, is the acute shortage of teachers. Second is the poor quality of teaching.

The Digital Classroom Program connects the rural government schools to our volunteer teachers through the means of digital infrastructure. The live interactive sessions are delivered in the regional language, focusing on Foundational English, Mathematics, and Science. The program is designed for Grades 5 to 10 students with an equal emphasis on co-scholastic learning outcomes.
Volunteers are selected based on the languages they know to help children in their local language. All the centres have an electricity supply besides having installed inverters and solar panels to ensure uninterrupted power.
Volunteer teachers come from diverse professional backgrounds who teach from the comfort of their homes and offices.
To act as the extended arm of the volunteer teachers, every eVidyaloka classroom has a Class Assistant. This Class Assistant, also called the CA, is picked from the locality and trained to operate the digital infrastructure and support the volunteer in conducting classes, thus creating a job opportunity in rural India for every eVidyaloka Digital Classroom.
