eVidyaloka is active in the space of providing education to rural children. It mobilises volunteers and encourages volunteerism by connecting individu Read moreals, irrespective of age or profession, who are devoted to teaching, with children in remote Government schools leveraging the power of technology to enable quality learning to reach rural children. It has set up digital classrooms with a CPU, 32-inch LCD screen, camera, conference mic, and broadband connections by BSNL and skype. All necessary equipment is set up by the NGO/community leaders at the respective rural locations. The teachers are remotely located with coordination between the teachers and the availability of the students being taken care of by eVidyaloka. There are about 90 such centres engaging volunteers to provide education to children from rural and remote areas of India in partnership with the Government, also involving local communities by utilizing digital technology through multi-modal programmes. It engages donor corporates also as partners for these programmes focusing on children from 5th to 10th grade to help them with education in their regional languages.


Issue

The students in rural government schools face two challenges. One, is the acute shortage of teachers. Second is the poor quality of teaching.

In the Digital Classroom Program, students learn from volunteer teachers in their classrooms using the infrastructure that enables two-way live interactive communication. Volunteer teachers come from diverse professional backgrounds who teach from the comfort of their homes and offices.
