Lokmitra engages with the Government & administration of UP in a multi-level manner to generate ideas and practices to impact education at the micro a Read morend macro levels through multi-stakeholder engagement. It works for the improvement of health and livelihood of poor communities, children of Government schools and their parents mainly from SC, Muslim, and OBC categories. Also works to improve the livelihood of migrants to UP and Brick Firemen families. It reaches out to most of the 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh through the education network with the name Basic Shiksha Manch (Basic Education Forum).


Issue

Children from disadvantaged sections are not able to complete education and end up working as child labourers. They are unable to contribute the society and remain poor.


Action

Encourages children from poor communities to pursue education and help them complete elementary studies.

Programs

  • Education support during the pandemic

    Parents and school management committees were contacted by Lokmitra in a bid to sustain learning amongst poor children. Three hundred and fifty volunteers were mobilised across various localities and equipped with over six thousand books to keep the pace of education going. The learning outcomes were tested and proved effective and found mention in Times of India and Oxfam India.

  • Education Programme – Strategy and Understanding

    Lokmitra addresses issues in the elementary education system in Uttar Pradesh by suggesting improvements in the public education system. It inspires teachers, parents and children to take up a participative role leading to a better outcome for disadvantaged communities.

  • School Learning Improvement Programme

    This initiative encourages parents, teachers and children to work together to improve learning outcomes. It helps the schools with an academic support package to ensure that the children get good foundational education. Periodic assessments help teachers to improve delivery and correct their style of teaching to get the best results. It has set up a voluntary forum of teachers who meet frequently and exchange experiences leading to a collective effort toward improving the delivery of education.
