Programs

  • PROSPER

The PROSPER study highlights the transformative impact of eyeglasses on global worker productivity. Conducted by VisionSpring, Clearly, Orbis, and Queens University Belfast, the randomized control trial revealed that providing tea pickers in India with corrective lenses increased productivity by 21.7%, soaring to nearly 32% for workers over 50. This marks the highest productivity boost recorded from any health intervention. The findings underscore the critical role of vision correction in enhancing workforce efficiency and emphasize the need for widespread access to eyeglasses, particularly in labor-intensive sectors.

  • THRIVE

The THRIVE (Tradespeople and Hand-workers Rural Initiative for a Vision-enhanced Economy) is a groundbreaking trial in rural Bangladesh, exploring the link between vision correction and income. By providing reading glasses to workers in agriculture, artisan crafts, and micro-enterprises, the trial revealed a remarkable 33.4% increase in median income. It emphasizes the transformative impact of clear vision on productivity, echoing findings from the 2018 PROSPER trial, which showed a 21.7% productivity boost among tea workers. THRIVE also highlights the potential of training community health workers to expand access to vision care in low-income areas.
