Greenwear aims to reduce the pollution caused by textile industries. It collects yarn from women workers in villages who use solar spun charkhas to ge Read moret it converted into fabric and garments. It is currently employing people for spinning, weaving, tailoring and value addition of the textile into garments. It collects yarn from women who spin it on solar charkhas. The women can also look after the house while monitoring the charkhas. Each women is enable to earn Rs. 6000 to Rs. 12000 from these units. Post collection of yarn the organisation distributes it to various traditional weavers to be made into fabric. For plain fabric weaving it gives the yarn to solar looms. It has produced over 2.25 lakh meters and is employing over 370 artisans. After the fabric is produced Greenwear taken it to its own garment manufacturing units to create garments for its own retail outlet and school uniforms. It is providing employment to 171 people in its facility. Since these outlets sell clothes produced from renewable energy sources it promotes such sources and has given rise to the concept of “Solar vastra”. It is also engaged in exploring and encouraging traditional methods of giving a fashionable look to the garments like using ornaments and traditional designs which will provide employment to artisans. In future the organisation is aiming to convert cotton cultivation to organic though only purchasing organically grown cotton. This will further help to reduce pollution.
