Karghewale partners with 150 young weaver entrepreneurs from thirteen different Indian states. These entrepreneurs, mostly graduates of WomenWeave's T Read morehe Handloom School, are at the heart of Karghewale's mission, which is to help them build strong businesses. What makes Karghewale unique is its belief that these weavers aren't just workers but equal business partners. Karghewale empowers these artisans to co-create, manage businesses, and sell their products directly to customers, breaking free from traditional value chains. Under the Karghewale brand, these young artisan entrepreneurs from across India come together as a united force. This unity allows them to bypass the obstacles posed by commission agents and connect directly with national and international markets. The Karghewale line includes products not only woven but also designed by these artisans in their own home workshops. It handles all aspects of production, from sourcing raw materials to finishing products. Each Karghewale product shares a story of growth, where artisans overcome challenges to proudly represent India's handloom weaving tradition. These artisans themselves set the prices for Karghewale products, emphasizing their role as creators, not just weavers.

Karghewale collaborates with weavers from the culturally rich Kutch region, particularly in Bhuj, who employ various traditional techniques like extra weft insertion to create vibrant Kutchi motifs such as chowmukh and damru. These skilled artisans also work with indigenous wool, crafting it into beautiful shawls. Notably, they utilize Kala cotton, an organic, hand-spun, and handwoven cotton variety unique to the arid Kutch region, making it one of the most sustainable fibres. Karghewale's products combine cotton, Kala cotton, and wool, reflecting the rich tapestry of this region's weaving traditions.

  • Maheshwari Weaves Programme

Karghewale celebrates the exquisite weaves of Maheshwar, known for their delicate silk and cotton fabrics adorned with intricate zari borders. These lightweight and easy-to-drape saris have become wardrobe staples for handloom enthusiasts. The weaving technique, known as Dobby, is a hallmark of Maheshwari textiles and often draws inspiration from nature, featuring themes like the Narmada river's waves (leher), ropes (rassa), cotton flowers (rui phool), and more in their border designs. Today, these Maheshwari textiles are known as Neem Reshmi, distinct from the traditional Garbh Reshmi style of the past.

  • Chanderi Weaves Programme

Karghewale embraces the tradition and elegance of Chanderi weaves, renowned for their delicate motifs adorning the soft silk and cotton fabrics. These exquisite motifs, often woven with metallic yarn, add intricate detail to the fabric's beauty. Chanderi weaving features meenakari motifs, including popular designs like paan, paisley, and kairi, while artisans have also embraced contemporary motifs such as diamonds, squares, and rectangles in their creations, showcasing the versatility of this timeless art form.
