Conservation Wildlands Trust is an organisation with a dual focus on both community well-being and forest conservation. Founded in 2012, its philanthropic mission centres on community-based wildlife conservation, transforming local relationships with forests from competition to stewardship. Operating primarily in the central Indian landscape, which houses 40% of the nation's tiger population, Pashoo Pakshee collaborates with villages adjoining the Pench Tiger Reserve and forest corridors. Their goal is to help these communities sustain their way of life while safeguarding the forests. Through support from the Pench Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra Forest Departments, they began this work in 2013. Pashoo Pakshee also partners with CWT, offering skill development through stitching schools and training local women to create various products, including soft toys, bags, buffs, and keychains.

    Assam

Hargila Army, under the leadership of wildlife biologist Purnima Devi Barman, has achieved an exceptional conservation feat. It has transformed the fate of the Greater Adjutant Stork, once on the verge of extinction, into a revered national symbol. Purnima's approach involves engaging people as stewards of these majestic birds. Her relentless efforts since 2008 have led to an impressive eight-fold increase in the local Adjutant population. Pashoo Pakshee initiated the Hargila Army, an all-women conservation team with over 10,500 dedicated members in rural Assam, focused on safeguarding the endangered Greater Adjutant Stork. It pioneered the use of an in-situ artificial breeding platform, setting a precedent for the conservation of similar bird species worldwide. Additionally, Pashoo Pakshee introduced traditional Assamese handloom attire with stork motifs, inspiring more than 400 families to embrace conservation-oriented livelihoods.
