Apni Shala intends to promote social and emotional learning(SEL) besides normal academics in low-income schools. It runs multiple initiatives to creat Read moree emotional well-being in school children. Its working model is aligned with the CASEL model offered by Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning, USA. This model has been adjusted to cater to the children of India through including stories, mindfulness, diversity and inclusion and imparting knowledge by the medium of construction rather than just gaining passive information. It operates many initiatives such as school SEL, SEL shala, diversity shala, the learning centre, youth project to create awareness about social and emotional wellbeing. It operated communities of well-being during the peak of the pandemic where social and emotional well-being sessions were conducted online for adults, children and teenagers. It conducts SELebrating Inclusion Summits which focusses on inclusion of SEL in systems, build a community which practices SEL and promotes well-being.

SEL Programmes
Grounded in the principles of play-based and experiential learning, the Year Long SEL follows a Grade-specific curriculum the 5 core areas of Social Emotional Learning. We partner with a wide cohort of municipal schools and non-profit organizations to create a platform where children can easily access SEL education throughout the year.
Growing since the day of our inception, this programme has been implemented in over 30 schools in the L and M wards of Mumbai.

Khoj School
Khoj is Apni Shala's SEL-Integrated School Initiative, currently operating at a Limbuni Baug Mumbai Public School in Mumbai, India. Khoj uses a holistic educational model that centers students' psychosocial wellbeing to educate and heal and incorporates counselling, mindfulness and inclusion practices to help empower its students and their families.
Central to its commitment to education is the view that when it comes to teaching a student, it cannot happen in isolation, but through a harmonious and healthy ecosystem that revolves around the student’s wellbeing.
Khoj aims to become a model school in the given context. With a curricular focus on students’ wellbeing and development, the school’s design is informed by students’ lived realities and continually strives to build an inclusive and compassionate ecosystem where all students can thrive.

Apni Shala Fellowship
The Apni Shala fellowship envisions an ever-widening circle of caring, compassionate youth inspired to integrate mental wellbeing education in schools, while growing to be more reflective, compassionate and empowered individuals.
The fellowship aims to create joyful, practice based learning journeys that construct ripple effects in the school systems as fellows simultaneously complete their own journeys of learning.
The Apni Shala Fellowship is a one-year full-time, paid fellowship programme for graduates (or advanced learners) from any discipline, on their own journey of exploration and discovery who aspire to impact the way children learn while pursuing their own learning. -
SELebrating Inclusion Summit
Apni Shala and Ummeed come together once again to advocate for Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Inclusion and to create a platform to bring all stakeholders in the world of social emotional learning and inclusion together. The SELebrating Inclusion Summit is envisioned to be an annual SEL and inclusion gathering of organizations, policy makers, schools, educational institutions, families, educators and any individuals working towards making the education system more inclusive, safe and focused on the wellbeing of those accessing it.
