Umeed envisions a world in which women are empowered on all levels and in a sustainable manner. Umeed, a non-profit entity, is committed to fostering Read morethe empowerment of women. Its primary objective is to transform societal perspectives and establish enduring positive change, marked by dignity, security, and a sense of hope for women. Through a variety of programmes and an enduring network of trust and support, Umeed equips women with essential life skills, a progressive mindset, and exposure to a world of opportunities within their reach. Umeed's core mission is to empower women to take charge of their well-being, attain self-sufficiency, and engage in meaningful contributions to their personal growth, families, and communities. The organisation upholds three fundamental values that guide its actions. First and foremost is Love, as Umeed centres its endeavours around the well-being of its stakeholders, respecting their viewpoints and collaborating closely with them. Second, Hope shines as a guiding light, fostering a spirit of determination and adaptability in the face of challenges. Lastly, Courage embodies Umeed's identity, emphasizing integrity, accountability, and proactive responsibility in the pursuit of its entrusted mission. Umeed's journey began when Gauri Mahendra and Udita Chadha, during their fellowships with Teach for India, recognized the emergence of regressive attitudes towards women among grade 2 and grade 3 students. Delving into research, they identified the weakened role of mothers within families as a root cause. Many of these mothers faced oppressive circumstances. In response, Umeed was founded in August 2014 in Hyderabad, aimed at catalyzing transformative shifts in the treatment of women and creating tangible, enduring improvements in their lives.
