MAPSAS(Mahadevpura Parisara Samrakshane Mattu Abhivrudhi Samiti) is a non-profit trust which was formed to revive dying lakes in particular areas of B Read moreangalore city which were reduced to small ponds due to heavy residential activity and pollution. The Trust came together as a small group of citizens who were concerned with the decay the lakes around the community. Initial efforts revived the lakes and birds but sewage and garbage dumping again started to threaten the eco-system. The group of citizens formed MAPSAS to give the trust a formal shape and started interacting with BBMP, the Government body responsible for upkeep of lakes and other public work activities in Bangalore. BBMP is responsible for putting in investment and infrastructure while MAPSAS takes the responsibility of daily upkeep and maintenance of the lakes. It conducts many activities to raise awareness among the city residents to motivate them to contribute towards upkeep of the lake. The activities include annual lake festivals which feature marathons, photography workshops, discussion on relevant nature books with authors, storytelling sessions, puppet shows and presentation of traditional art forms.
