Programs

  • Healthcare Programme

Calcutta Rescue operates four fixed clinics and two mobile clinics to bring healthcare to 25 communities living in the slums of Kolkata. It provides its services free of cost and maintains its own pharmacy to supply medicines through its clinics and mobile units. It has specific interventions to cure TB and ensures that each patient goes through health education when they visit its premises.

  • Education Programme

The organisation runs two educational facilities that are not full-fledged schools but act to provide education in a safe and caring environment for the children coming from unsafe and harsh environments of slums.

The children are provided with all facilities to develop well like food, involving them in extra-curricular activities like sports, clothing, vocational skills and study materials.

  • Living Standards Programme

Calcutta Rescue works in the areas of sanitation by building and installing toilets and access to clean drinking water by installing water pumps to enable good health and reduce diseases in the people living in slums.

  • Handicrafts Programme

Calcutta Rescue found out that all school children or patients that are under its purview are not able to earn a living due to being disabled, illiterate or lacking necessary skills.

For such people, it runs its handicrafts project teaching handicrafts from the rich culture of India. Teams from Europe frequently visit and provide input to the artisans to introduce a modern flavour to handicrafts.

  • Arsenic Project

The organisation is involved in providing safe drinking water free of arsenic to the poor populations living around the Malda area. It analyses the water samples regularly to gauge the level of arsenic which happens to be a dreaded poison that slowly kills a person due to being ingested through drinking water. It installs water pumps fitted with arsenic filters to prevent the metal from getting into the drinking water.
