    2022

At Battle for Blindness, we are on a mission to empower blind and visually impaired girls and individuals from marginalised communities with dignity, Read moreindependence, and opportunity. Since August 2022, under the leadership of our founder, Mr Ram Kumar, who has been dedicated to this cause for over five years, we have supported many abandoned blind girls through our efforts to secure their bright future. Our comprehensive programs—including free residential facilities, nutritious food, education, rehabilitation, employment assistance, and financial support —are designed to transform lives. We provide specialised training in orientation and mobility, preparing individuals for government job exams and equipping them with essential skills for self-reliance. Our impactful campaigns, including walking cane donations, healthy grocery deliveries, assistive technology, and marriage support for blind couples, ensure holistic empowerment. At Battle for Blindness, every service we offer is provided at no cost, ensuring that no one is left behind in their journey toward independence and success.

Action

The foundation provides support to the visually impaired and blind people for educational purposes, vocational training, preparing them for competitive examinations, employment assistance, and with gadgets to make them independent and self-reliant to lead fulfilling lives. This is done for the blind girls staying in our hostel and even for the visiting ones.

Impact

The organisation has been successfully helping visually challenged individuals realise their dreams. Many girls who stayed previously or presently in the hostel have been able to study for their graduation and post-graduation levels. The Battle for Blindness team, under the guidance of Mr Ram Kumar, has been preparing and guiding them at every step. Many have cracked the entrance examinations in various Government departments, including banking, teaching, the staff selection commission and also in areas of sports like cricket. Impact is more for the girls who are either abandoned or are not supported by their families due to their blindness, as they have worked towards achieving their goals while staying in the hostel with free stay and food facilities run in various states by the Foundation. Regularly, the team has been distributing groceries, walking canes, blankets and other items to the needy blind people not staying in the hostel but where the foundation comes across them in different cities of India. Students have been provided with specially equipped laptops, financial assistance in terms of paying their college fees etc. The foundation has also played a vital role in matrimonial arrangements for blind couples. It aims to ensure that blind people get married and have a happy life with their life partners.

Vision & Mission

The mission of Battle for Blindness Foundation is to light the path of independence and empowerment for visually impaired individuals by providing resources, support services, and opportunities to enhance their quality of life and uphold their dignity.

Programs

  • Employment Facilitation Programme

Battle for Blindness is on a mission to enhance employment opportunities for the visually impaired. Its goal is not just any employment but meaningful, choice-driven jobs that have a positive impact on the lives of those with visual impairment and their loved ones. With qualified volunteers who bring valuable market experience, the organisation aims to provide necessary skill development, interview training, job selection based on capabilities, and ultimately, the achievement of each individual's dream job. It is dedicated to collectively working towards this goal, fostering a brighter future for the visually impaired.

  • Preparation for Government Jobs Programme

    District
    State

Battle for Blindness is committed to preparing visually impaired individuals for Government job opportunities. Despite reserved seats for the visually impaired in the Government sector, many remain unaware of these opportunities. The organisation's mission is twofold: to educate the visually impaired about these openings and to provide the essential support and guidance needed to make successful applications, navigate examinations and interviews, and secure coveted Government positions that may have otherwise remained out of reach. Its aim is to empower the visually impaired with the knowledge and tools to pursue a fulfilling career in the public sector.

  • Orientation and Mobility Programme

Battle for Blindness is dedicated to enhancing the independence of visually impaired individuals through its orientation and mobility program. Based on extensive interactions with the visually impaired, the organisation recognises their strong desire for independence, especially in their mobility. This programme is designed to teach them safe and effective travel techniques, ensuring they can move around freely with confidence and without obstacles. The ultimate goal is to empower the visually impaired, providing them with increased mobility, independence, and a happier, more fulfilling life. Our team takes them to the city on different transportation modes and encourages them to use the walking cane and be alert and safe.

  • Hostel For Abandoned visually impaired girls

At the Battle for Blindness Foundation, we are dedicated to illuminating the path of empowerment for visually impaired girls. As a prominent nonprofit organisation, we have been unwavering in our commitment to transform the lives of economically disadvantaged, visually impaired girls since our establishment in 2022. Over the years, our impact has grown exponentially, and today, we proudly serve a community of abandoned blind girls.
Our core objective is to uplift the lives of visually impaired girls by providing them with support for leading a brighter future. We do this by offering cost-free hostel accommodation, quality food, and invaluable guidance on pursuing education, and career opportunities and getting prepared to lead their lives with confidence. The hostel also has a computer lab and a Braille library.

  • Sports Programme

Battle for Blindness is committed to facilitating sports training for the visually impaired. Opportunities in Paralympic sports have expanded significantly, encompassing various disciplines such as athletics, cycling, equestrian, football, goalball, judo, rowing, sailing, and swimming. While India also offers equal opportunities, the challenge lies in visually impaired individuals accessing information and receiving the necessary training. The organisation has addressed this limitation by assembling a dedicated team that provides comprehensive sports training to empower the visually impaired in pursuing their sporting aspirations. We are proud to share that one of our students and residents, named Simu, has played for India as a part of the Indian National Blind Cricket Team.
