Shree Vivekanand Research and Training Institute (VRTI) at Mandvi, Kutch was established in 1975 and registered in 1980 under the Bombay Public Charit Read moreable Trust Act, 1950. The invaluable vision of Pujya KAKA with profound beliefs in rural development through participation has been the guiding force for all the activities of VRTI. The vision of VRTI hovers around the intensification of sustainability in agriculture, animal husbandry and rural art & craft with an emphasis on local psycho-socio-economic-and-environmental aspects precisely focused on the welfare of rural communities. VRTI is primarily imputed to its precise and focused execution of the programme aimed at social and community development in consonance with the local needs based on the principles of motivating, empowering and transferring the responsibilities on a participatory approach involving a wholesome community. The consummate activities subsume rainwater harvesting, creating drinking water resources & distribution systems, watershed development, prevention of salinity ingress, disaster management, livelihood, health & hygiene, education and capacity building. Environmental conservation activities for the sequestration of carbon dioxide are evolving as one of its core focus areas.

The main goals of this plan are to increase the occupation of animal husbandry and to secure feed in areas of Kachchh that are prone to drought. Promoting the growth of fodder crops (sorghum, corn, Napier grass, and other fodder), fodder banks, and animal rearer capacity improvement are the main interventions needed to achieve fodder security. This scheme has been expanded to include the villages of Mandvi, Bhuj, Nakhtrana, Abdasa, and Lakhpat blocks in the Kachchh district, thanks to financial support from the Mumbai Gaurakshak Trust (MGT).
