The Akshaya Vidya Foundation, a non-profit organisation committed to Education and Child & Youth Development, concentrates on nurturing the overall gr Read moreowth of marginalized individuals. Focusing on the educational requirements of children, employment prospects for youth, health, hygiene, and various societal aspects, the foundation inaugurated the Akshaya Vidya Learning Centres (AVLCs) in 2013. These centres aim to cultivate comprehensive development among children residing in slums, fostering self-esteem and independent thinking to contribute to an ideal society. The goal is to establish a society where every child, irrespective of their background, can access quality education, empowering them to achieve their utmost potential and contribute to the nation. The mission involves implementing measures for continuous education, exposing individuals to modern educational and economic opportunities, creating community role models, providing vocational training, and raising awareness about health and hygiene to enhance living conditions and prospects. Through supplemental educational support, the foundation endeavours to ensure that no child is left behind.

Akshaya Vidya Learning Centre Programme
AVLCs operate daily from 6.00 PM to 8.00 PM, with teaching sessions held Monday to Friday. Saturdays are dedicated to enjoyable activities like singing, dancing, arts, and crafts, and storytelling. The syllabus is covered from June to February, reinforcing school exam preparation in March. Starting with passionate volunteers, AVLCs evolved their syllabus to align with Government standards. Regular testing and feedback ensure effective teaching. Tutors receive monthly training, and ongoing research adapts methods to align with India's changing education policies, particularly the National Education Policy 2020. Transitioning to online methods during COVID-19, tasks and learning materials were shared via WhatsApp groups, ensuring no child was left behind.

Girl Child Programme
In underprivileged communities, girls frequently encounter gender bias, burdened with household chores and childcare when mothers work outside. Their education often takes a backseat. Akshaya Vidya is dedicated to increasing educational opportunities for girls in these areas. Each AVLC has parent committees, involving mainly mothers, who are enlightened about the crucial role education plays, particularly for girls in their families. This initiative strives to overturn traditional biases, emphasizing the significance of girls' education in these marginalized settings.
-
Women Empowerment Programme
Dedicated to women's empowerment in slum areas, Akshaya Vidya focuses on training its predominantly young female tutors and coordinators in academics, computer skills, and communication during routine programmes. Upon completing their formal education, they undergo specialized training in their chosen fields and secure employment. Many former tutors, previously engaged in part-time domestic work, have successfully transitioned to well-paying positions in marketing, software, design, and data entry, contributing to their upliftment and relocation from the slums.

Relief Programmes
Akshaya Vidya's commitment to disaster relief spans various incidents, from supplying aid to flood-affected regions in Chennai (2015) and Hitex slum (2016) to Singareni slum (2020). Amid the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly affecting daily-wage earners, the team, led by Organizing Secretary Mr. T Prasad, tirelessly distributed cooked meals, grocery kits, and snacks to families in Hyderabad's Nandanavanam, Singareni Colony, and Borabanda. Additional relief efforts extended to slums in Vizag and tribal areas of Adilabad and Vizag, supported by contributions from individuals, NGOs, and corporates, amounting to Rs.90,00,000/- during the first wave and Rs.40,00,000/- in the second wave.
