PREMA VASAM is a home dedicated to mentally and physically challenged, as well as less fortunate children. Operating under the name "Prema Vasam," whi Read morech means "a place of love," it provides residential care and support to these special children and their families, regardless of their background. Established on June 2nd, 1999, by Mr Selvyn Roy, the inspiration behind the home was to educate a 14-year-old differently-abled girl named Indra. Witnessing her transformation from depression to academic excellence, Indra's success story became the driving force behind Prema Vasam's mission. Today, Indra proudly serves as the Director of Prem Illam, furthering the organisation's vision to serve and empower these children to realize their potential and contribute positively to society.

  • Prem Niketan & Prem Illam Programmes

    Prem Niketan, a unit of Prem Charitable Trust, was established in 2011 as a mark of its commitment to serving society. To address the growing number of children in need, it initiated Prem Illam in 2017, a home for girl children located in Sirunallur Village, Maduranthakam. Both initiatives aim to provide a safe and caring environment for the children and contribute positively to their well-being.

  • Physiotherapy Programme

    In the area of physiotherapy, a dedicated team of physiotherapists provides essential services to children affected by cerebral palsy, autism, and mental challenges. The daily sessions from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm involve therapeutic exercises like electrical and muscular stimulation, tension removal, contracture removal, stretching, and strengthening exercises. The facility is equipped with advanced equipment such as the Electro care machine, parallel bar, static cycle, physioball, and walker. Through regular physiotherapy, significant progress and development have been observed among the children, leading to remarkable improvements in their overall well-being.

  • Occupational Therapy Services

    Occupational therapy is an essential part of the organisation's services, especially for children who may be bedridden or have periods of inactivity. It utilizes various tools like fur toys, musical toys, standing frames, CP chairs, and building blocks to enhance occupational therapy for the children. This therapy involves exercises to normalize muscle tone, stretching, and positioning to relieve tightness and maintain flexibility. The achievement of developmental milestones is facilitated through different positioning techniques, providing sensory experiences to help the children grasp objects. Occupational therapy plays a crucial role in making special children more active and providing them with a sense of accomplishment in their abilities.

  • Special Education Programme

    In the area of Special Education, the organisation focuses on children with learning disabilities and slow learners. It categorizes the children based on IQ testing and provides them with colourful toys, colouring books, clay, puzzles, matching cards, and simplified academic skills like vocabulary, colours, shapes, and basic arithmetic. For the trainable group, the main goal is to foster independence through teaching Activities of Daily Living (ADL). Music and songs are incorporated as part of the special education programme.

  • Play Therapy Services

    The organisation incorporates play therapy, harnessing the natural love for games among children, including the special ones. With the guidance of a special teacher, the children participate in running and physical exercises that are relevant and tailored to their individual needs.
