Led by Saumya and Mahima, the granddaughters of the founder, who bring a global perspective, the foundation aims to foster enduring change in low-income rural and urban communities. The foundation recognizes the fundamental inequalities faced by women in Indian society, where limited choices, lack of agency, and restricted aspirations prevail. To address these inequalities, Calcutta Foundation adopts a comprehensive approach focused on achieving gender equality in work, essential services, legal protection, political voice, and physical security. Its philosophy emphasizes empowering women to attain financial independence, with a vision of a world where women have equal economic opportunities and can make their own decisions. Through training, skill development, and community engagement, the foundation seeks to establish centres offering vocational training, financial literacy, and mentorship, creating a supportive environment for women to realize their potential and take control of their lives.

The Calcutta Foundation has impacted by establishing 9 Apni Kutir centres across rural and urban Bengal, training 3000 women with a 75% post-training placement rate, reaching 24 villages in Bengal through physical programmes, and impacting the lives of 25,000 individuals across 20 states through digital interventions.

Apni Kutir is a physical space designed to empower women on their path to financial independence. It serves as a 360-degree intervention, providing women with opportunities, support, and resources to establish a strong financial identity. Apni Kutir acts as a space for progress, equity, hope, and ambition for women, offering unique interactions and connections to the global community. Through education, training, community building, and individual development, Apni Kutir enables women to connect with the world. The three pillars of Apni Kutir are Skilling & Literacy, Individual Development, and Community Building.
