    States

    Madhya Pradesh

    Maharashtra

The organisation began direct engagement with farming communities in 2010-2011, piloting the "Agriculture Enterprise Facilitation Centre" (AEFC) model. It has scaled up its efforts, expanding to nine districts across six states and reaching over 42,500 farmers. The AEFC model has evolved into the 3 Fold Model, which involves intensive engagement with farmers and their institutions. The organisation is implementing Integrated Village Development Models in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. These models target rainfed regions and districts identified for special assistance by the Government under the Backward Regions Grant Fund. It specifically focuses on socially and economically deprived communities, including scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and small and marginal farmers.

FishMARC, a vertical within Vrutti, has a long-term goal of strengthening the livelihoods of small-scale fishing communities and promoting sustainable use of fishing resources. Since its establishment in 2008, FishMARC has been actively working in Kutch, where it established a Fishermen Producer Company. It has also collaborated with the Tamil Nadu State Government to promote better management of fish resources and has implemented three co-management pilot projects. In August 2017, FishMARC joined Vrutti to leverage the benefits of a larger team of professionals and enhance resource mobilization.

  • Programmes for Other Marginalized Communities

Vrutti works with communities facing difficult circumstances, such as women in sex work and communities affected by or vulnerable to HIV. These communities often lack empowerment and the ability to make decisions about their lives and livelihoods. A significant factor contributing to their disempowerment is their limited access to finance. Vrutti intervenes by providing support in areas such as financial literacy, financial inclusion, and livelihood assistance.
