The Foundation strives to create secure communities and ensure the welfare of individuals in custody. Its mission is to promote the fundamental freedoms of all people, establish safe societies, and safeguard the rights of those segregated, marginalized, or left behind. It engages in various activities such as facilitating access to legal aid, promoting justice-based solutions to prevent crime and unnecessary detention, strengthening the oversight of custodial institutions, and providing legal education and capacity building. Additionally, it supports initiatives that promote the well-being and reintegration of prisoners into society, as well as the exchange of good practices in justice administration and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Through evidence-based research, policy improvement, consistent monitoring, and collaborative efforts, LLF aims to bring about systemic change and address gaps within the justice system, while considering gender and diversity.

Justice for All Initiative
This programme aims to develop effective strategies for delivering justice in India and Asia while ensuring compliance with human rights and the rule of law in custodial treatment. It strives to enhance the impartiality, integrity, and efficiency of law and justice institutions while promoting sustainable development goals for deprived populations, including those in custody and victims of crime. Through collaboration with stakeholders such as law enforcement, judiciary, and civil society, the programme empowers individuals by raising awareness of legal rights through education. Additionally, the Rahat initiative provides relief and humanitarian aid to vulnerable populations in emergencies, supporting their rehabilitation and reintegration.

Civil Society Initiative
The CSI Programme aims to foster an inclusive and democratic society by promoting public understanding of the law and justice system. It encourages civil society participation in closed institutions' governance, protects life, liberty, and dignity, and achieves sustainable development goals. The programme focuses on developing a network for prisoners and their families, sensitizing the public through various means, establishing a justice fellowship, and offering online and field courses on the rule of law and sustainable development. These initiatives empower individuals from diverse sectors to contribute to practical interventions that ensure justice, good governance, and the protection of human rights.

Prison Parliament Initiative
This initiative aims to establish a network of elected representatives in India and Asia to advocate for legislative, budgetary, and structural reforms. It focuses on addressing issues such as crime reduction, prison overcrowding, innovative policing and correctional administration, prisoner reintegration, and enhancing transparency and accountability in custodial authorities and service providers. Through expert presentations, facilitating parliamentary visits to detention facilities, and organising regional roundtables, LLF seeks to gather legislators' experiences to improve policy and practice while ensuring compliance with human rights and good governance standards.

Business for Life & Liberty
This initiative supports sustainable entrepreneurship for released prisoners, enabling them to reintegrate into society successfully. It acknowledges prisoners' diverse backgrounds and provides skill development opportunities within prisons, while also establishing connections with financial institutions, markets, corporations, and charities. The Second Chance Start-ups initiative assists released prisoners in launching their own businesses, aligning with relevant Sustainable Development Goals. The programme also fosters collaboration with prisons to diversify products and create market links, generating resources for prisoners, prison facilities, and associated initiatives in the targeted regions.

Art for Life & Liberty
This initiative encourages art and cultural activities within prisons, fostering freedom of expression, therapy, empathy, education, skill building, empowerment, and recreation. It also utilizes art in public spaces to educate, create empathy, and support vulnerable populations in custody, victims of crime, and mobilize efforts towards fulfilling their sustainable development goals.
