    Khabar Lahariya is a women-run brand of independent rural news in India, reaching 5 million people monthly through digital platforms. With 25 women reporters in 16 districts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, it focuses on hyperlocal, video-first news for remote areas. Its content has attracted 150 million views and 540,000 YouTube subscribers. Established in 2002 after an adult literacy programme, it was co-founded by Meera Jataw, Shalini Joshi, and Kavita Bundelkhandi, with Kavita now serving as the editor-in-chief. Originally producing a fortnightly newspaper in Bundeli and Hindi languages, the venture now aims to expand its brand and empower women across districts in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar.

The courses, trainings and toolkits available on Chambal Academy are designed with the idea of enabling rural audiences, especially women and girls off the connectivity grid, into Digital Bharat - as producers, consumers and an empowered workforce.

    The flagship rural mobile journalism course introduces students to rural digital journalism specifically from a feminist perspective. It enables them to recognize and understand gender, caste, and patriarchy in Indian society, and how these affect the media we create. The course develops digital media skills in audiences with little or no exposure to media or technology, preparing them to be confident, active digital storytellers in their communities, as well as prepared for a range of jobs in the digital workforce.
