Aastha Charitable Trust For Welfare of the Mentally Challenged, is a public charitable Trust that has been working for the empowerment of persons with Read more intellectual disability. A determined group of parents of these special children strived hard to find solutions to the emerging needs of the special children and their families at different stages of life and development. In 1968, they set up (SWMR) Society for the Welfare of the Mentally Retarded, the 2nd oldest Parents’ Association in India. Later, 2 parents started a Vocational Unit in their residence which blossomed into Aastha Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Mentally Retarded in 1992. Realization of further needs led to the establishment of Aastha Charitable Trust For Welfare of the Mentally Challenged in 2005, which took up the Project of Anand Dham. It is a residential set up which provides meaningful opportunities to adults with special needs so that they can live an active and independent life, develop occupational skills, get the warmth of a family and be part of the society. At present, Aastha Charitable Trust for Welfare of the Mentally Challenged runs two projects: Aastha Vocational Training Centre at Changodar, Gujarat where more than 60 children with intellectual disabilities learn different vocational skills and become independent. Anand Dham , a residential set at Adroda village, near Bavla city where 67 adults with intellectual disabilities are living the rest of their life in a peaceful environment. Ananddham provides the best residential facilities to them so that they can feel like they are at home.
