Issue

Panchayat Union Middle School in Puraiyur, Thoothukudi District, a government institution with over seven decades of history, experienced a significant decline in student enrollment by the early 2000s. By 2015, enrollment had dropped to just 19 students, placing the school at risk of closure and jeopardizing the education of children in the village. This situation was further exacerbated by inadequate infrastructure, an imbalanced pupil-teacher ratio, and limited access to quality educational resources, all of which hindered the students' ability to achieve their full potential.

Action

Education Kits Project : Providing students with comprehensive educational kits, encompassing uniforms, sports attire, books, stationery, bags, shoes, and socks. Un-aided Teachers : With only seven government teachers, including the headmaster, Puraiyur Welfare Trust (PWT) has stepped in to sponsor an additional six teachers to maintain the recommended pupil-teacher ratio. SMART BOARD Project : We are integrating advanced SMART Interactive Boards and establishing a computer lab with high-speed fibre-optic internet to enhance learning opportunities. Enhancing School Infrastructure : Enhancing School Infrastructure: Creating supportive and inspiring learning environments by improving school infrastructure through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and government programs.
