Paryavaran Mitra's role involves raising awareness, disseminating information, facilitating discussions, and encouraging effective participation of affected communities in the EPH. With its extensive involvement since 1999, Paryavaran Mitra has become a proactive force in enhancing the transparency, accountability, and effectiveness of the public hearing process, contributing to the protection of the environment and collective assets.

Paryavaran Mitra is dedicated to promoting environmental education as a cornerstone of sustainable societies. It actively engages in educating students across schools, colleges, and communities both in India and internationally. The organisation's commitment to raising awareness is evident through its lecture series conducted from 2008 to 2013, covering a wide range of topics, including climate change and its multi-faceted impacts. Paryavaran Mitra's involvement extends to national and regional programmes, utilizing electronic media platforms to amplify its educational efforts. The organisation has made significant strides at the school level, implementing projects in 71 schools, impacting around 10,000 students in Ahmedabad. Through these projects, Paryavaran Mitra introduces young minds to the intricacies of forest ecosystems, emphasizing their connections with biodiversity, water cycles, and carbon cycles through engaging and interactive methods.

Paryavaran Mitra actively advocates for effective environmental policies and law enforcement, securing landmark judgments that promote public engagement and governmental accountability. With a focus on Public Interest Litigation (PIL) for over two decades, it has significantly impacted environmental legal cases in Gujarat. Using tools like the Right to Information (RTI) and media engagement, the organisation influences legislation and policies for sustainable development. Notable achievements include establishing an Eco-Development Fund, addressing violations in shopping malls, and ensuring compliance with high court orders to combat pollution. Paryavaran Mitra's efforts extend to forming a Right to Information Action Committee, advocating for improvements in the Right to Information Act.

Paryavaran Mitra provides training to create "Enviro Paralegals," individuals well-versed in environmental laws, aiding in bridging the gap between legal aspects and pollution-affected communities. Its 3-month course equips participants with environmental law knowledge, technical insights, and social impact awareness. It also conducts teacher training programmes, such as "Jidd Karo Paryavaran Bachavani," promoting environmental awareness among teachers and B.Ed. students through interactive sessions. These initiatives aim to overcome barriers like lack of awareness and technical understanding, enhancing effective environmental law implementation and fostering sustainable development.
