ELF combines quality education with mentorship to close the opportunity gap for college-going youth from low-income families, and has educated 404 students since inception.
The reality in India is that quality education has become an exclusive right of the privileged, leading to a wide gap in the education system — an institutional gap. In response to this gap, edYouth Learning Foundation (ELF) was established in Juhu, Mumbai, with a mission to cater to the distinctive needs of college-going youth from marginalised sections. ELF's mission originated from the founders' experiences during their volunteer work from 2014 to 2024, where they witnessed educational disparities in the Juhu slums. Disappointment among youth with available tuition classes and a lack of guidance and mentorship became apparent issues. The COVID-19 pandemic further aggravated the institutional gap, forcing education institutions to transition to online learning, disproportionately affecting students from underprivileged sections.
Realizing the need for a comprehensive solution combining quality education with mentorship, ELF began its mission during the pandemic and in July 2021, ELF was incorporated as a Section 8 Company under the Companies Act, 2013. The working model of ELF combines quality education with mentorship to address the needs of socio-economically challenged students. The foundation acts as a catalyst for change, driven by a commitment to empower students and close the educational gap. -

Building on its grassroots track record, ELF is launching edYouth Pathshala — a full school-adoption programme for 50 students of Grades 9 & 10 at Manilal Sunderji Municipal School, Vile Parle West. The school serves children of migrant-worker and daily-wage families from surrounding slum communities, who face inadequate infrastructure, teacher shortages, poor nutrition, and little career guidance.
Programme Activities
• Daily lectures in Mathematics, Science, English, Social Studies and Languages.
• Regular tests to track learning progress, plus monthly feedback sessions between teachers, students and ELF coordinators.
• Dedicated SSC (Grade 10 Board) exam preparation and career guidance sessions.
• Daily nutritious meals for all 50 enrolled students, coordinated with the school administration.
