Letters for Change is an initiative started by 12-year-old Mahika Mishra. Our mission is to amplify children’s voices and inspire change, combined wit Read moreh their vision to create a world where every child can speak up, and we are doing this one letter at a time. Started in 2019, this completely student-run organisation works relentlessly to give children an opportunity to express their views honestly and openly. As a movement by children, for children, LFC operates under the Mahika Mishra Foundation, a registered Section 8 Company.

Issue

Children’s voices are systematically suppressed as children don’t have a voting right, no economic contribution and no support from society in matters that directly affect them. A child however small, is still a person. Adults cannot think like children, the same way children cannot think like grown-ups. They don't see the same problems and vice-versa.

Action

We host letter-writing events where we encourage children to write about any topic they feel can change their lives. We use social media to bring attention towards the issues and concerns raised by children. With our inclusive culture, we aspire to create a safe space where children are free to communicate their ideas and opinions fearlessly.

Impact

Our impact reaches everyone we are associated with, from the students who intern with us who get to take the lead and learn about how an actual organisation works, to the children writing the letters who get the chance to speak up and all those we have collaborated with. We challenge societal norms and thoughts about children. Their voices affect norms around gender, money, patriarchy, age and colour.

  • Social Welfare Programmes

    District

Empowering children to find their voice and advocate for change through engaging letter-writing events and interactive sessions. It encourages collaboration with schools and organisations to foster expressive adults, as seen in partnerships with DLF Public School, Udaan Foundation, St. Jude India Childcare Centre, and SAMPARC. These events not only raise awareness about the Mahika Mishra Foundation (MMF) but also cultivate enthusiasm and active participation among children, creating a positive impact on their confidence and awareness of important issues.
