Azad Shiksha Kendra (ASK) – Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh was registered as a Trust in 2004. It is a non-political and non-profit organization engaged in the Read more socio-economic upliftment and welfare of poor and deprived sections of society with an explicit focus on the most backward and minority-dominated regions of the state. The organization draws its ideological strength from Gandhian ideals and secular and democratic values. It has brought together a dedicated group of professionals like doctors, lawyers and social workers to address the developmental issues emerging in focal regions. Besides, there is a team of dedicated workers guided by voluntary spirit and social commitment. As an organization, we are essentially concerned with the elimination of child labour, protection of women, promotion of education and health care, rural livelihood enhancement and right to information etc. And the programmes are largely focused on Muslim, Dalit and Musahar communities in Azamgarh and Allahabad districts, besides, of course, Jaunpur. Right since its inception, the organization has undertaken a large number of projects/programmes which enabled lakhs of people from partner communities to have better access to health care, nutrition, literacy and education, livelihood etc. The main thrust has been on women's empowerment and child development. Strategically, we maintain better coordination and rapport with government agencies/departments, PRIs, local NGOs/CBOs and women-led organizations at various levels.
Action
Promotion of sexual and reproductive health and rights 1. Ensuring access to sexual and reproductive health and rights Strategies and Methodologies - Identification of adolescents and young people and working with peer group model: Mobilization of local level youth volunteers for identification of eligible families and mapping their needs. Creating groups of young people and educate them on comprehensive sexual education. Organizing camp for enrolment in various government schemes such as RBSK and Jan Suvidha kendra for better outreach. - Handholding support and follow-up: Families are provided handholding support better access to health services, resources and right information. - Government advocacy: Coordination with the government to overcome the grievance of beneficiaries as per requirement. 2. Prevention and response to gender-based violence - Child Rights Protection: The program, with particular reference to Rights to Education and Protection, being operationalized in Jaunpur district addresses the question of quality education of all children especially girl children and seeks to build child protection structures in more than 150 villages of the district with the support parents and communities. - Reducing Gender-Based Violence: The program engages young people and men in rural areas to in order to address the pervasive issue of violence against women in families, institutions and society. The organization undertakes these programs in the forms of training and educational/awareness campaigns. We are also developing new strategies to expand in the area of SRH and accessibility. Achievements: - Through the collective, ASK has an outreach of 1,000 young people who were directly a part of the campaign journey with the YP Foundation. - Approximately more than 200 young people were sensitized on the issue of SRH through trainings and capacity building sessions on gender and identities. - More than 10 youth groups formed with support of collective and are actively holding dialogue circles on breaking the stereotypes around access, awareness and action around CSE and SRH with special focus on masculinity. Protection of human rights (social harmony) and education 1. Social Harmony Strategies and Methodologies: - Awareness building: Mass mobilization and community connect to increase the awareness among the target people for social harmony - Selection of community and schools: Mix community selection and school of the various level selected like primary school, secondary school and Madarsa - Coordination with government officers and community influencers through meeting, joint visits, providing platform for disseminations of ideas, conducting monitoring and support visits, joint planning, joint workshop etc. - Bal Mela and Festival: Organizing Bal mela at block level with multiple schools and Madrasas, organizing festivals to promote social harmony at community level. Achievements: - 1200 women and adolescents are trained under the social harmony initiative. - Approximately more than 1500 children (6yrs - 14yrs) participates under the social harmony initiative every year. - 500 youths(14yrs-22yrs) trained under the social harmony initiative - More than 60 government, private and Madrasas are part of network under the social harmony initiative. Government stakeholders are important part of the initiatives and they continuously provide their support at block and district level. 2. Improving Education Strategies and Methodologies - Approval and Coordination: Formal approval from the Madrasa institution and collaboration for the education program - Training and Capacity building: Training, capacity building and onsite support to the Madrasa teachers on learning improvement in subjects like Math, EVS and Language - Classroom activities: Classroom management and organization activities with children for making joyful learning and improving overall educational environment - Library promotion: Encouraging library activities with the children in schools and promoting its usage. - TLM development: Designing contextual teaching learning methodology and providing trainings to teachers on its usage. Achievements: - 8000 children reached - 350 teachers trained - 2000 children covered through technological integration in education. 3. Sustainable Development Goals and youth development Strategies and Methodologies - Identification of youth from colleges: Mobilisation of local level volunteers for identification of youth and mobilising them for the orientation program. - Training and intensive engagement with youth: Youth are trained on basic constitutional values, rights and duties. Post training, selected youths are mobilised to disseminate the constitutional values in their local community. - Mobilization: Mobilization on Samvidhan Live program in School and communities - Weekly activities: Various weekly activities performed in school and communities under Samvidhan Live program. Achievements: - 350 Youth got engage under the Samvidhan Live program - 10 NGO’s associated with Samvidhan Live program - 1000 individuals are benefited with the program Ensuring Livelihood to most marginalized communities 4. Livelihood promotion and Training (Organic Farming, Goatry and Tailoring) Strategies and Methodologies - Identification of eligible family: Mobilisation of local level volunteers for identification of eligible families and mapping their needs. - Training: Providing training support to identified persons on Goat rearing, Organic farming, Vermi-compost, Sewing and tailoring etc. - Follow up and field support: Follow up process related to training and field support to the beneficiaries for proper implementation of the program. Achievements: - 22 Farmers got trained under organic farming - 28 beneficiaries got trained under goat farming - 35 women received training under the tailoring - 1300 families covered under this program and supported them to receive Mazdoor card. - 1800 beneficiaries got the E-Shram card - 150 families received PM Awas yojana benefits.

Prevention and response to gender-based violence
DistrictThe program focuses on ensuring quality education and child protection, particularly for girls, across 150 villages by engaging parents and communities. It addresses gender-based violence by involving young people and men in rural areas through training and awareness campaigns. Special emphasis is placed on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and breaking stereotypes around gender, masculinity, and comprehensive sexuality education (CSE). With the YP Foundation's support, over 1,000 youth participated in campaigns, 200 were sensitized on SRH, and 10 youth groups were formed to foster dialogue and action.

Harmony and Democracy through of Composite Heritage and Constitution project
Shahganj in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh, a total of 15 villages of the block and 9 wards of Nagar Panchayat Khetasarai.s
Objective of the project:-
1 To build an understanding of constitutional and common heritage with 500 young people across selected locations
2 Establishing 25 youth clubs across 50 villages with 500 young people leading community dialogues and actions.
3 Designing and implementing 25 social change projects aimed at a solution based approach for the selected community issue.
Despite a long history of all forms (caste, religion, sect, community, region-based etc.) of violent conflicts, the lack of serious secular initiatives is particularly conspicuous, more so at the level of children – their text-books, schooling, family and neighbourhood. This program is the response to the need of ‘educating’ children who inevitably are at the receiving end of numerous conflicts and the ideology of hatred and divide emanating there from. Our goals are the following:
(i) Regularly collect and analyses credible evidence on anti-minority abuses and targeting
(ii) Build community capacity to respond to anti-minority targeting/ discrimination locally and regionally, for justice and rehabilitation
(iii) Provide victims of torture/serious human rights violations a holistic package of direct assistance to overcome trauma/dislocation and seek justice
(iv) Expand and strengthen network of lawyers, paralegals and HRDs to support survivors in their quest for justice
If we are successful,
(i) Network of grassroots/in-community paralegals, HRDs and survivors will be able to respond to episodes of human rights abuses, by collecting and analysing information, building trust with victims, and triggering the criminal justice process, whilst also proving immediate support to survivors
(ii) Episodes of human rights abuses will be documented and evidence and analysis disseminated, to raise awareness domestics
