The Divya Downs Development Trust (DDDT)is an Institute for educating and skill-training individuals with Downs Syndrome. The trust has completed 18 Read moreyears of functioning. Downs Syndrome is a chromosomal abnormality where the individual has one extra chromosome in every cell of their body. This causes intellectual impairment and many other health problems in the individual. DDDT is founded by the parents of Divya, Esther Thomas and Robin Thomas) who is born with Downs Syndrome? Objective- Aims to intervene, educate and rehabilitate and skill-train individuals with the syndrome. DDDT has a comprehensive and structured training program for maximum growth and development. The trust provides special education, skill training, physiotherapy and speech therapy. The trust has 3 major projects. a. early intervention for age group 1 to 3. ( infant stimulation, speech therapy and physiotherapy) b. Education Project - for age group 5 to 16 and (basic academics and functional academics) skill training for the age group 16 to 40. (Training in various skills such as - photocopying/ data entry/needlework/ sewing/painting/candle making/ making handmade paper and paper bags/ stitching canvas/denim/ kora bags/ baking and chocolate making. Additionally, the trust has started a Women's Empowerment project for underprivileged and unemployed needy women- These women are taught various employment-oriented skills for livelihood. The main aim is to skill-train unemployed underprivileged women for employment. We also have counselling and psychotherapy for parents, conducted by a qualified person.
