Ashraya Sanstha

Ashraya Sanstha is actively working in the field of rural-slums development, especially those places where the people from Paradhi and other Nomadic Read moretribes are residing through Project Nidhyan. Currently, 180 families (more than 250 children among them) are residing in the village Walunj. Paradhi is one of the most notorious tribes in Maharashtra State. They are known by various names in the neighbouring states. Looting the people was their main source of  earning. We find people from Paradhi community involved in such incidents of looting today as well. The women in this community go begging along with their kids and solicit money or something to eat showing that they are helpless and there are no ways other than begging to feed their malnourished babies. Even if they do not feed their babies to make them malnourished, sometimes they kidnap children from other places, make them injured and force them to beg for them showing their wounds. There are such big problems this community is facing and at the same time, huge problems are being created by this community for other society members. Ashraya Sanstha has decided to start working with this community to help them to be civilized; changing the mentality of these community members is difficult but very necessary. For this purpose, they have to be provided with at least basic education and health facilities. Unless they are made aware of their social & economical standing, they cannot be inspired to make efforts for the betterment of their conditions. It could only be achieved through continuous  interaction with them by regular involvement in the issues relating to their health and education. Ashraya Sanstha aims at bringing about this awareness among them. We have started a project ‘Education and Healthcare Support Program’ focusing on their education and health issues.
