Programs

  • Miyawaki Island Development

The Sivakasi Green Forum actively engages in environmental restoration and monitoring programmes, such as the Periyakulam Kanmai initiative. This project focuses on revitalizing the main water reservoir of Sivakasi, addressing issues like siltation and declining groundwater levels. Through efforts like desilting ponds and clearing water input canals, it aims to improve water flow and quality. Additionally, the organisation collaborates with local authorities and stakeholders to plant trees and create green spaces, exemplified by the plantation of 2000 trees in the Periyakulam tank area. These initiatives not only contribute to biodiversity conservation but also raise awareness about environmental stewardship within the community.

  • Sengulam Kanmai Programme

The Sivakasi Green Forum has initiated a comprehensive project at Sengulam Kanmai, spanning approximately 72 acres, to rejuvenate the water body and surrounding ecosystem. Working in collaboration with local authorities, including the former Virudhunagar District Collector Mr. Meghanatha Reddy, I.A.S., it has undertaken desilting, bund formation, and Miyawaki island creation. By systematically addressing various aspects of the restoration process each year, the organisation strives to transform Sengulam into a thriving natural habitat, free from water weeds and debris. This year, efforts have focused on canalizing ditch water flow, implementing measures for sewage water treatment, and integrating treated sewage water with rainwater storage in the tank. Plans are also underway to establish a Sewage Water Treatment Plant in Sengulam Kanmai in the future.
