The goal of the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM), a development organisation, is to create a new civil society in India by working from the gro Read moreund up to design policies in the fields of health, education, socioeconomic empowerment and training, and research. Over 3 million individuals are served by SVYM through 40 Projects, 7 Institutes, and more than 100 Partners. Serving as a vital promoter-facilitator in the neighbourhood's endeavours towards empowerment and self-sufficiency, SVYM is creating affordable, creative, and locally relevant solutions to maintain community-centred development. According to SVYM, building human and social capital will have a positive economic impact. Using this development strategy, the organisation has made sure that poor people in rural and urban areas, migrants, indigenous tribal communities, and other marginalised groups are developed. The results of this work are well-documented and accessible to the public through its reports.

Programs

  • Investing in children powers up a Nation

    District

Through equitable education, SVYM's Education Programs help to develop the Human and Social Capital of our future generations.

SVYM's educational initiatives target economically disadvantaged students in rural, tribal, and urban areas. They include residential education, scholarship programs for deserving students in rural areas, technology-based learning to enhance and augment the curriculum in rural government schools, vocational skills development, nutrition, health, and hygiene through an integrated Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) component.

Through collaboration with educators, policymakers, and instructors, SVYM's education sector has made the capacity building of teachers a priority, experimenting with new teaching methods.

  • Investing in the health of our future generations

    District

The goal of SVYM's Health Sector is to enhance human and social capital by providing fair and easy access to healthcare through interventions that are both community- and institution-based.

Every year, Vivekananda Memorial Hospital in Saragur, in the Mysuru District, our Rural Secondary Care Speciality Hospital, serves approximately 40,000 rural and tribal people. It also serves as the centre of our 15+ community health program, which uses a lifespan approach to engage a variety of age groups.

Currently, SVYM provides home, community, and institution-based services to provide promotive, preventative, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative care services. The Government Health System collaborates with a network of community health workers, the Mobile Health Unit (MHU), and the NGO's Secondary Care Hospital to guarantee a continuum of care.

Our health interventions help mothers and expectant mothers maintain the health of their unborn children, recognise and prevent diseases and disorders in children at an early age, and develop the skills necessary for people to fulfil their potential as adults.
