The Kamalini project for training needy women is one of the ways that Educational & Development Initiatives (EDI) is helping to educate persons, Read moreserve the poor, and promote volunteering among youth and working professionals. Since 1995, EDI projects have touched the lives of thousands of persons in the National Capital Region, Mumbai, and other parts of the country, by promoting socio-economic development through education and vocational skills training for those who lack opportunities. The Kamalini Vocational Training Centre on Sohna Road provides livelihood skills training and personal guidance for underprivileged women to gain employment or launch micro-enterprise in sewing, catering, and beautician work, complemented by skills in English conversation and basic IT. The campus includes a hostel for students from remote areas, and an in-house training conference block for short-term seminars, for a wider impact. Kamalini has mobilized volunteers along with corporate support to run medical screening camps for villagers and gotten medical staff to volunteer their time to explain preventative health care and hygiene matters. Educational & Development Initiatives projects foster in youth spirit of leadership and service through social projects, visits and interaction with the needy, elderly and sick. Parents have organized family development case-study courses, and health care professionals have promoted a palliative care awareness project.
Action
Kamalini offers courses in tailoring, beauty services, computer skills, English, and other vocational skills to empower women through education and employment opportunities.
