VAILANKANNI SOCIETY FOR RURAL CONSTRUCTION AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION  (VIRTUE)  18/94 - V, Hospital Street of Thiruthuraipoondi of Thiruvarur District Read moreis registered as a society under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 27 of 1975 (Registration NO.19/1993 date. 18.02.1993). VIRTUE is administrated by the executive committee with officebearers S.XAVIER, B.E the Secretary Mrs. P.MARIYA SHANTHI CLEMENT, MA D.Ted, the President and Mis.A.Jesi Arokiamary, D.Ted. Treasurer and the other four executive committee members, totally functioning with 29 social activist members – team of committed like minded persons. We are doing Rural, Welfare Health promotional activities, Women development, environmental Awareness Programme, for the upliftment the poor and down trodden people in Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam Districts. Our five areas of Operations are Livelihood promotion for rural women Skill Development Training Activities for Youth Alternative and Innovative Education for School Dropouts Health Promotional Activities and Environment promotion We have conducted special awareness campaign on T.B control; AIDS control, STD control, RTI programmes in Thiruvarur District. We have been rendering Medical services for inpatient and out patient treatment with Diagnostic services for all major diseases and distribution of Drugs. Special care for cases like RTI, STD and PLHAs being given and their family members were counseled to sustain their survival. One of our projects was Tamil Nadu Urban Development Project ISP-IEC Programme. We covered urban slum pockets of Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam District's Municipalities. SHGs and children were educated on personal Hygiene, water and sanitation and improved their sanitary condition. Particularly usage and maintenance of sanitary complexes in theirs living areas. We carried out Sarva Shiksha Abiyan project (SSA) - Alternative and innovative education in four blocks of Thiruvarur District. 1150 nos. of Dropout children (child labour, never enrolled and Dropouts) were identified educated by involving the educational volunteers and mainstreamed in regular schools. We implemented self employment trainings through Skill development, to increase the income among the rural and urban poor people of Thiruvarur District and established individual or group business units to improve their economical standards, programme such as REDP under NABARD at Vaipoor village of Thiruvarur block for 30 nos. of unemployed women SHG members in COIR twisting and COIR mat making trade. We had established COIR production units through bank linkages .we have sanctioned a community hall valued about Rs. 10 lakhs by COIR Board Central Government of India under COIR worker welfare scheme. We had trained the Tsunami affected youth victims in skill development activities under supported of FVTRS Bangalore. We had conducted general health awareness program on T.B. and RCH to our targeted community.
