The Goa Foundation is the most well known of Goa’s environmental action groups. The work of the Foundation spans different areas and fields, all related in some way or another with the conservation of Goa’s natural environment

Programs
-
Anti Plastic Campaign
The proliferation of plastic waste in both urban and rural environments of Goa, along with the inadequate disposal arrangements by municipalities and panchayat authorities, has been a cause of concern for many environmental NGOs and citizens since the establishment of the Goa Environment Federation (GEF).
-
Biodiversity in Goa
In the realm of biodiversity in Goa, the vast array of life forms on Earth is highlighted, with approximately 1.8 million species identified and named by various groups including tribals, peasants, and scientists. While certain organisms like birds, mammals, and flowering plants are relatively well studied, there remains uncertainty surrounding lesser-known groups such as insects and fungi. Estimates suggest there could be up to eight million species or more, underscoring the ongoing need for further exploration and classification efforts. This underscores a significant challenge for the new millennium: enhancing our understanding of the diverse organisms with whom we share our planet.
Milestones & Track Record
Filing the first public interest litigation in Goa for protection of sand dunes, participating in the Western Ghats Peace March, publishing environmental guides and reports, and winning landmark Supreme Court cases on mining.
