Over its 40-year journey, it has pri Read moreoritized empowering marginalized communities, especially women, since 2000. Its activities include training Paralegal Volunteers for human rights education, providing legal aid to women facing violence, and operating a Resource Centre along with publishing materials. The organization's mission is to advance gender equality among marginalized groups through education, research, training, and collaboration with communities, civil societies, and government institutions. Its vision is to foster a society that is gender-just, inclusive, and compassionate.

Impact

DEEDS supports about 100 cases of women victims of violence directly and provides legal education to more than 10,000 persons annually.

Programs

  • Capacity Building Programme

    DEEDS conducts a Capacity Building Programme, raising awareness about women's rights and laws, providing gender-focused training, adolescent education, and institution building. It offers consultancy, legal support, RTI guidance, and expertise while training Paralegal Facilitators to intervene in violence against women. Through these initiatives, DEEDS empowers communities, promotes gender equity, and addresses societal challenges effectively.

  • Legal Aid Programme

    DEEDS operates an Advocacy and Legal Aid Centre, championing women's rights and supporting victims of abuse. They provide legal representation and assistance to women in need, with their legal team successfully addressing 60-70 cases of violence annually. Alongside, DEEDS conducts seminars and workshops to share key learnings. Utilizing the Right to Information (RTI), the organisation advocates for gender equality, obtaining valuable data on issues like sexual harassment prevention in the workplace and child marriage. Individuals also benefit from DEEDS' RTI expertise for their advocacy efforts.

Milestones & Track Record

DEEDS has developed over 300 paralegal facilitators in 8 districts of Karnataka, formed district and state-level networks of paralegal facilitators, and completed a 3-year project on creating a paralegal force to address gender-based discrimination and violence.
