The Safe in India Foundation (SII) is dedicated to helping workers in India's manufacturing sector who suffer severe injuries, such as losing their ha Read morends or fingers, which impacts their health and livelihood permanently. These workers, who are mostly migrants and often on precarious contract terms, face significant challenges, with thousands affected nationally each year. This not only poses a humanitarian concern but also results in an economic loss for the country, particularly in smaller factories. To address these issues, SII has implemented four pillars of action. Pillar 1 focuses on assisting injured or disabled workers by providing them with ESIC healthcare and compensation so they can live with dignity. Pillar 2 aims to improve workplace safety in manufacturing, particularly in the auto-sector supply chain, to reduce accidents and ideally eliminate the need for Pillar 1, while also supporting the achievement of SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Pillar 3 involves helping to enhance ESIC's healthcare and compensation services nationwide, ultimately reducing the reliance on Pillar 1. Lastly, Pillar 4 is focused on raising awareness of safer work practices and ESIC services, primarily among workers but also among other stakeholders.

Compensations Assistance Programme
Since its establishment in December 2016, Safe in India Foundation has been aiding injured or disabled workers in maintaining their dignity by assisting them in accessing ESIC healthcare and compensation. Through its Worker Assistance Centre in Manesar, Gurgaon, it has provided free-of-cost support to numerous distressed workers, helping them secure better healthcare and compensation. With over 2,500 injured workers facilitated for healthcare, it has yielded substantial returns, particularly in permanent disability benefits, amounting to over INR 20 crore. Additionally, it has contributed valuable evidence and data from more than 2,000 auto-sector workers to inform its accident prevention initiatives and has influenced regional and national improvements in ESIC services based on evidence and data from 2,500+ mainly injured workers.

Workplace Safety Improvement Programme
Safe in India Foundation focuses on improving workplace safety in the manufacturing sector, particularly within the auto-sector supply chain, aiming to reduce accidents and support the achievement of SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Since mid-2017, it has engaged with auto brands, industry bodies, and the government to enhance safety practices, focusing on the supply chain employing over 100 million people. Initiatives include launching annual accident prevention reports, raising awareness of unsafe conditions, and collaborating with government bodies and auto brands to implement safety measures. Progress includes government working groups, MoUs with the MSME Ministry, and involvement in improving safety standards. While some improvements have been made, there's recognition that more efforts are needed to ensure comprehensive workplace safety.
