Foundation for Sustainable Health India (FSHI) is a Bengaluru-based non-profit organization that evolved from the Consortium For Tobacco Free Karnatak Read morea (CFTFK). CFTFK was formed by Dr Ramesh Bilimaga (Bengaluru Institute of Oncology) Executive Director HCG, Dr Pratima Murthy Prof of Psychiatry (NIMAHNS), Present Director and Mr S J Chander (SOCHARA) in 2000. The goal of CFTFK is to protect people from harm arising from all tobacco consumption, as well as from tobacco processing and cultivation. The protection of children from the harmful effects of tobacco is a concurrent focus. Since its inception, CFTFK has carried out public awareness programmes in many parts of Karnataka and policy advocacy with the state government for framing laws and planning programmes. After having worked as an informal coalition for 18 years , CFTFK was registered on 13th March 2019. Within a year of registration, the board felt the need to re brand to widen the scope of the work we do. This was partly influenced by requests from parents and teachers to include programmes targeting the consumption of alcohol and drugs among youth and also to address issues related to mental, emotional and physical aspects of the adolescents. Thus, the Foundation for Sustainable Health India (FSHI) emerged in 2020 and CFTFK became an initiative for tobacco control under the FSHI umbrella. At present FSHI carries out two major initiatives viz Safe School Programme, under which a comprehensive approach to address the issues related to adolescent children in schools. CFTFK, under which all tobacco control measures are considered. Create awareness on public health issues of concerns to the society. Initiate action on health problems and needs of society with active participation of all stakeholders’ concern. Address adolescent health issues through Safe School Programme Build a collation of individuals and institutions under Consortium for Tobacco-Free Karnataka to undertake tobacco-free initiatives.
