CITTA India is a not-for-profit organization that works and builds in disadvantaged areas of India to bring holistic and sustainable growth. With a fo Read morecus on health, education and economic development, our synergistic HEED model (Health, Education, Economic Development) is uniquely powerful - it is easily scalable while remaining non-partisan and adaptable to the specific needs of the community. Our vision is manifest from rural Jaisalmer’s GYAAN center project. The center includes a state-of-the-art school building built over an area of 10,000 sq meter. The ‘Rajkumari Ratnavati Girls’ School’ will offer free education and nutrition in an area infamous for systematic gendered discrimination and female infanticide. The GYAAN center will also include a Women’s Cooperative to skill-train local women in traditional handicrafts for global markets. Lastly, the center will include the ‘Medha Hall,’ a global platform which will act as a library, textile museum and multimedia performance hall.

Programs

  • The Rajkumari Ratnavati Girls School

In rural Jaisalmer, girls confront severe social, economic, and geographical barriers to education, amidst prevalent issues such as female infanticide and child marriage. The GYAAN Center, a three-phase educational initiative spearheaded by CITTA India, endeavors to address these challenges by providing girls and women with the tools necessary for economic independence and autonomy. Over the span of a decade, CITTA India has garnered international support to establish the GYAAN Center, aiming to not only uplift local communities but also draw global attention to the imperative of women's empowerment in this region. Through educational initiatives and a celebration of cultural heritage, the center seeks to combat harmful practices and foster gender equality and prosperity in Indian society.

  • Women's Cooperative

The Women’s Cooperative is dedicated to fostering economic empowerment among the women of Jaisalmer by offering comprehensive support, including skill training, financial literacy, and digital education. Through these initiatives, women are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to produce high-quality local handicrafts with commercial viability. This cooperative serves as a vital platform for women to enhance their livelihoods, achieve financial independence, and contribute to the economic growth of their communities.
