The Pepper Cook Seva Foundation runs a volunteer-operated community kitchen inside the Pepper Cook Studio in South Mumbai. Drawing inspiration from Si Read morekh Gurudwaras' langars and the spirit of selfless service, or Seva, the Seva Kitchen provides over 800 freshly cooked meals to Mumbai's underserved communities twice a week. Additionally, the kitchen repurposes pre-expiry stock from local supermarkets and food establishments to reduce food wastage. The Foundation is fundraising for a larger community kitchen to serve 3,000 children six days a week and collaborating with schools for mid-day meals. As a not-for-profit organisation, the Pepper Cook Seva Foundation operates on registered contributions, welcoming both large and small donations. Cooking sessions, ingredients, and equipment are sourced through donations, and each session's operational costs are typically covered by one or two main sponsors. The foundation creatively repurposes pre-expiry ingredients from food companies and community shops, emphasizing high-quality vegetables and spices in meal preparation. The cooking sessions take place every Tuesday and Thursday, with volunteers of varying ages contributing to the entire process, from preparing ingredients to distribution. Non-Profitting, prioritizing a cause over applause, and emphasizing the significance of good-quality food for the soul, the Pepper Cook Seva Foundation promotes volunteering and making a difference through donations.
