Multiple Sclerosis Society of India – Chennai Chapter (MSSI) works for the welfare of people affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS). One of the main thru Read morests is in creating awareness about Multiple Sclerosis. We work with the neurological wing of hospitals in and around Chennai. We reach out to MS persons with medical, financial and emotional support, provide them need based counseling and conduct monthly meeting. We also keep tracks of patients’ medical requirements, employ physiotherapists to home-bound MS persons. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the Central Nervous System, affecting its functioning unexpectedly and repeatedly, resulting in devastating disabilities in young people in the prime years of their lives. It has various symptoms ranging from minor visual disturbance to total paralysis, due to which simplest everyday tasks can no longer be efficiently performed.

  • Home Nursing Care & Physiotherapy

    During the disease, from the time of diagnosis through times of stability and advancement, relapses, and when the disease gets more advanced, physical therapists are crucial to the therapy of multiple sclerosis.

    Exercises designed to strengthen muscles, and enhance gait—the way you walk—as well as balance and coordination, are part of physiotherapy for multiple sclerosis. Stretches are also a part of it to assist patients to keep their range of motion and avoid muscle spasms. Instruction in the use of mobility devices, such as a wheelchair, walker, or cane, is another aspect of physiotherapy.

    To enhance the mobility of underprivileged and marginalised individuals, MSSI offers physiotherapy and home nursing care to MS patients who are unable to pay for these treatments.

  • Scholarships

    MSSI pays for the education and training expenses of MS individuals as well as the offspring of MS individuals. For MS people who are in need and cannot afford it, this service allows them to finish their education. Due to employment losses and the pandemic's effects on small enterprises, many families found it difficult to support their children's education during that time. The MSSI scholarship support is making life easier for families by lessening the financial load of education costs.
