Iksha foundation started its journey on 26th February, 2010, with the aim to provide aid to children suffering from Retinoblastoma (eye cancer) and to Read more create awareness about the disease. We at Iksha believe that no child should ever lose eyesight or face death to this type of childhood cancer which has one of the best cure rates. Iksha now covers the cost of treatment of 123 underprivileged children who were diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. We also support the education of 11 of these children. Currently, Iksha is working in partnership with Narayana Nethralaya, Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Center, Prabha eye clinic, Vittala Eye clinic and Sri Sankara Cancer Hospital in Bangalore, H V Desai in Pune and Center for Sight in Hyderabad. We are in regular contact with hospitals and parents of the patients to ensure timely follow-up visits till the treatment is complete and children are free of cancer.


Action

The Iksha Foundation recycles scrap paper into notebooks and stationery materials for underprivileged students, conducts awareness sessions on climate change prevention, and provides reusable, recyclable, and biodegradable sanitary napkins to women in need.

The foundation has recycled over 22,000 kgs of scrap paper, provided 8,219 underprivileged students with stationery materials across India, reduced landfills by 1,958 cubic feet, and saved 375 trees.

Programs

  • Support for treatment of the cancer

    The Iksha Foundation is a public charitable trust focusing on retinoblastoma or eye cancer. Our goals are to raise awareness, help impoverished children with their treatment, and fund research to enhance the care given to children with retinoblastoma.

    Since this type of juvenile cancer has one of the finest treatment rates, we at Iksha feel that no child should ever lose their sight or face mortality from it. Any family should not experience the unfathomable sorrow of losing a child. We now support children receiving treatment at multiple hospitals in Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Pune for Retinoblastoma diagnosis.

  • On-going care and treatment

    The Iksha Foundation not only helps with treatment costs but also with other educational costs, personalised ocular prosthetics for children who have lost an eye to cancer, and visual aids for children whose sight has been compromised by the disease to ensure the child grows up to be an independent member of society.

The Iksha Foundation was a finalist at the World Sustainability Award in Amsterdam 2023, and its founders have been recognized as finalists for the Glocal Teen Awards.
