Since
1996
Navnirman Samaj Vikas Kendra (NSVK) was established in 1996 by a handful of like-minded people committed to bringing about a social change. Today, it Read moreboasts of a team of 45 staff members, 6 fully operational projects under its wing, and 2 self-sustained projects owned by the community. It operates in the slum areas of Goregaon to Dahisar in Mumbai with all communities irrespective of religion or political affiliation. It aids a slum population of 15 lakhs. The objective is to promote economic betterment, mutual respect and understanding among themselves. NSVK supports those on or below the poverty line in developing their autonomies so that they are able to improve their respective situation by using their own resources. Our Vision: “Support changes in the life of socially and economically deprived communities by building an active partnership with them in a spirit of transparency and sensitivity, pursuing an ideal of overall sustainable development of society” History: NSVK was started in a one-room office at Malwani (Malad West) in North Mumbai. Today, we have 8 branches in Mumbai. These branches are spread over Malwani, Kandivali, Malad, Goregaon and Borivali, our Head Office at Malwani, Malad (west). Our beneficiaries predominantly constitute those people or families who are below or just above the poverty line. We operate at the slum areas with all communities irrespective of religion or political affiliation. Most of these residents are on daily wage earners and from unorganized sector. They are predominantly illiterate, with very little access to the basic infrastructural facilities. They have very little or no knowledge of factors such as hygiene, family planning, budgeting, safeguarding their future etc. As a result of unsteady income, there is a very high rate of temporary and permanent migration in these communities, owing to no continuity in their children’s education.
