Anandha Illam Program
StateStates
Tamil Nadu
In 1994, Dr. Manorama, a paediatric gastroenterologist at the Government Hospital for children in Chennai, founded the Community Health Education Society Ashram (CHES Ashram) after caring for two HIV-positive children who were abandoned even by medical professionals. Renamed Anandha Illam as it expanded, the home has since admitted 310 HIV-positive children, prioritizing those with no one to care for them. Through educational and vocational support, CHES has successfully reintegrated many children into society, with 41 pursuing professional courses and 18 opting for vocational training. Over 25 years, CHES has transformed the lives of these "Lesser Children Of God," providing them with family, education, healthcare, and the belief in a brighter future.

After Care Program
StateStates
Tamil Nadu
Since initiating its AIDS orphan care program in 1994, CHES has been instrumental in supporting HIV-positive children beyond childhood, navigating challenges posed by the Juvenile Justice Act's age limit of 18 years for children's homes. Collaborating with TANSACS, the Department of Social Defense and Welfare, CHES established an After Care program tailored to meet the educational and medical needs of transitioning young adults. As of 2014, CHES has seen 41 children graduate, including six engineers, one chartered accountant, and two BSc nursing graduates, all of whom have successfully secured employment. Through diligent support and counseling, CHES ensures the holistic well-being and continued connection of these individuals to the organization.

Breaking the Resilience – Building the Self Esteem Program
StateStates
Tamil Nadu
Originating in 2012 as a Micronutrient support initiative for AIDS orphans, this project swiftly evolved to address various gaps in orphan care, focusing on enhancing educational, health, and overall developmental outcomes. Emphasizing self-confidence and leadership skills, the project aims to empower children to become community leaders and bridge the services they miss while away from home. Through tailored interventions, including educational support, computer literacy, vocational training, and nutritional assistance, the project nurtures holistic development, identifies hidden talents, and instills a positive health approach and behavioral outlook among the 100 children served. Active engagement in children's clubs and diverse activities, such as field trips to post offices, further enriches their learning experiences and fosters confidence and trust in their abilities.
