Vellore Pengal Mempattu Sangam (VPMS) is a Community Based Organization (CBO) run and led by female sex workers. The CBO is presently working with 15 Read more00 female sex workers across 10 blocks of Vellore, Tamil Nadu. The vision of the CBO is, “improving the social status of the vulnerable and integrating with the society”. Over the past 7 years, the CBO has provided many services to sex workers and their children; such as counselling, treatment, and commodity supplement. Through Community Mobilization Project, the organization promotes savings habit, ensures insurance and pension schemes to these people and facilitates the members to get a loan from formal sources. It also supports the members to address and resolve violence and ensure accessing various government schemes and entitlements. Presently, the CBO focuses on Resource Mobilisation to sustain their support to the members. The organization established a good rapport with the local government, Social welfare office, ICTC and RMC. The CBO covers 160 positive sex workers, 48 affected and 10 infected children in the age group of 0-18.
