Empowering the Nahar Community: Transforming Livelihoods in Prabhat Pattan
DistrictSince 2015, efforts have been directed towards uplifting the Nahar community in Prabhat Pattan village, Betul district. The community relies on Bhilwa (Semecarpus Anacardium) for their livelihood, primarily through collecting and processing its nuts. Women manually extract “Godambi,” a dry fruit, and produce oil from waste, despite health risks like painful blisters and scars. Low literacy rates, poverty, and widespread substance abuse hinder progress. With an average family income of ₹2,000–₹3,000, the initiative aims to improve education, healthcare, and sustainable employment opportunities, fostering a healthier and more self-reliant community.
Milestones & Track Record
Since 2015, Karunah has conducted health camps, provided loans to women, and established an Activity Centre for children in partnership with Eklavya Foundation.
